Korn’s next album is taking shape, and the band appears to have a large pool of material to choose from. Speaking in a recent interview, guitarist James Munky Shaffer said the group has written about 40 songs while working on its upcoming fifteenth studio album.
The new project will follow 2022’s Requiem. Shaffer said the band is still sorting through the material, rewriting parts, cutting songs, and looking for the strongest direction. The goal, he explained, is to keep the sound recognizably Korn while also pushing the music somewhere fresh.
Shaffer also addressed the absence of longtime bassist Fieldy, who stepped away from the band in 2021. He said Fieldy did not seem fully engaged during earlier writing sessions and appeared unhappy with the demands of touring and recording.
The band has not framed the situation as a public feud. Shaffer said the main concern is that Fieldy is healthy and in a good place. Roberto Ra Díaz has since been playing bass with Korn, bringing new energy to the group’s current work.
