“No No Song” is a good-humored ode to sobriety, in which the singer claims to not be drinking or doing drugs — though at the time Ringo Starr still was indulging in both. The song’s writer, Hoyt Axton, was writing about his own experiences in giving up addictions.
“No No Song” was Starr’s seventh consecutive Top 10 single in the U.S., peaking at Number Three.
In the U.K., it was actually the B-side to “Oh My My,” a track from his previous album, Ringo. The single was released to promote his hits album Blast From Your Past.
Goodnight Vienna was Starr’s last Top 10 album, peaking at Number Eight on the Billboard 200 chart.
The album featured an all-star array of more than 25 players, including Beatles bandmate John Lennon, Elton John, Dr. John, the Band‘s Robbie Robertson, and Billy Preston.
