Flint’s Classic Rock – 103.9 The Fox

I remember when I was younger going over to my Godmother’s around Independence day with my family (Mother, Father,Sister, Brother and myself.) Her family consisted of two boys, a girl, the husband and her. I am not going to say they were rich but they were very well off. We got out of the van and did the normal, “hi how are you”…blah blah blah. After about ten minutes the kids (myself included) broke off from the group to play with the vast amount of outdoor toys they had. Not long after that the husband approached my brother (around 13 years old) and myself (around 10 years old) with two grocery bags of fireworks. He looked at us and said “have fun” gave us the two bags then took off back inside the house. He did not give use any crazy fireworks, but as a kid having an adult give me, a ten year old boy any kind of fireworks was crazy. My brother and I spent the day blowing off small firecrackers and bottle rockets until it was dark. At that point we were told to go to the back deck because the real fireworks were going to start. The firework display was amazing but that was not the scariest part of the night. We need to back track now to when I got to the back deck at dusk. Some of the younger kids were having the adults help them shoot off roman candles. The kids were holding them and the adults were using the lighters to spark em up. I can’t remember how old the youngest son was but I recall saying to myself “I think he is to young to be doing this.” But I guess I was the only one that felt that way because he was next in line to shoot a roman candle off and not a single adult said anything. The flame hit the roman candle and everything was going as planed. One red fireball, then a green, followed by a yellow, white and blue. Five fireballs shot into the air. As the last one exited the firework I was thinking it was odd he was lowering the roman candle with one ball still to fire. As that happened the last ball of fire shot out at an angle (because he was going to put the firework down) It smashed into a huge white propane tank, remember the tanks everyone had in their yards. Well nothing happened but everyone just sat there silent for about five minuets.
